ETH Zürich offers BYOD printing with SavaPage

Thousands of students of the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich use SavaPage Open Print Portal to print documents from their own computer or device.

Users collect print jobs by uploading PDF documents to the SavaPage Web App. Here, a preview is displayed in advance, so optionally it can be edited. In the same Web App, a printer is selected, job options such as single or double sided, color or grayscale, hole punching, stapling and booklet are specified, and the print command is given. Secure Print Release and Accounting are then handled by the existing print management system.

SNOR streamlines SmartSchool Print with SavaPage

Sint-Norbertusinstituut (SNOR) uses SavaPage Open Print Portal in conjunction with PaperCut to print from Smartschool to their repro department and charge costs to students.

Sint-Norbertusinstituut (SNOR) is a school for secondary education in the Belgian town of Duffel and has about 1100 students. The SavaPage Smartschool Module works in conjunction with Smartschool Print Center as print job supplier and PaperCut as Print Management System.

Teachers select or upload a PDF document for print in Smartschool and specify a combination of classes and individuals for whom a copy is to be printed. SavaPage downloads the PDF files with associated student information from the Smartschool Print Center, calculates the number of copies and sends the print jobs to a PaperCut managed printer queue.

The release of print jobs to three Xerox Multi-Functional Printers is done in PaperCut by the repro department. SavaPage monitors the printing status and reports it back to Smartschool, so the teacher sees what happened to his print request. After the job is successfully printed, SavaPage charges the costs, as calculated by PaperCut, proportionally to students and other individuals on their special Smartschool account in PaperCut.

Based on these data, a manager can use the SavaPage Web App to create a CSV export of the total printing cost per pupil in a given period. This export is the input for the billing process to the parents.
